I've begun what I call "the Cow Series". Sketching and colored pencil studies, a couple of charcoal studies, and a general plan.
The graphic consisting of green rectangles is the layout for an idea I might pursue- a "septych"- seven paintings that hang together as a sort of panorama.
But first there will be oodles of smaller studies and drawings [all for sale in the interests of raising money for canvas and paints.]
I'm doing some large-scale landscapes using cows as placeholders to show the scale. Portraying the grandeur and wide-open feeling of this place is challenging. Drawing cows is an odd necessity- I'm well-schooled in humans, but bovine anatomy is fairly new subject matter for me.
I plan some more traditional landscapes, smaller tree-studies [Kansas trees, like ocean trees, are bent in homage to the eternal winds], and a few pieces depicting the little towns throughout the area, many of which are "worn in" like a pair of old work boots- and the more beautiful for it.
Any roughs you see on this page are available for sale for $10- $20 [depending on level of complexity].

The colored pencil drawing of the barbershop at left [16"x20"] is available for $75.
