RAMONA, KANSAS
Matt and I moved here in the beginning of May, 2010, and bought what I jokingly call "The Little Heap on the Prairie"- a dilapidated vintage 1970's trailer.
It featured dissolving particle-board floors, a mummified cat under said floors [we found her while tearing out the subfloor to put in plywood] six truckloads of trash and scrap metal, messed up electrical and plumbing systems, and birds nesting in the air conditioner, among other stuff.
It also featured a half acre of land and a garage, both of which were key to our interests.
Matt needs the garage for his project, and I needed dirt to grow our food in.
The price was 4K. We own our home outright, and have near-zero debt. This is good.
SO. We've been doing a lot of work to make it habitable for the moment, and now it's a cozy little nest [with working plumbing] that suits us fine. Some of the projects we're doing/have done will be here on this page as I make them into slideshows [not yet- too much else to do! :) ]
Ultimately it will be a cottage, surrounded by herb and veggie gardens.
Our neighbors are already amazed at the changes, and we've only just begun.
The developing series of Kansas-inspired artworks I'm working on here are at the cow link.
Photos of our various projects will be posted as I get them sorted. :)
